Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra Performs “Music of Youth & Experience”

Contrasting works by Elgar, Bizet deliver an exciting and emotional concert

MINNEAPOLIS, November 1, 2011 – The Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce its upcoming concert featuring the first and last compositions of two extraordinary musicians, British composer Edward Elgar and French composer Georges Bizet.

Sunday, Nov. 20 at 4pm
Trinity Lutheran Church
115 Fourth Street North, Stillwater, MN 55082

The concert will open with Elgar's reflective Elegy for string orchestra, followed by his last important composition, the poignant and autumnal Cello Concerto. This piece will provide a striking contrast to Bizet’s energetic and lyrical Symphony in C, penned when he was only seventeen years old.

“Listeners will be able to contrast the enthusiastic lightness and joy of Bizet’s youthful work with Elgar's autumnal Cello Concerto. This last major work by the great 20th-century British master plumbs emotional depths that Bizet would have been hard-pressed to even imagine as a teenager,” said MSO Music Director William Schrickel.

The soloist for the concerto is Teresa Richardson, principal cellist of the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.

“The Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and I are always happy when we return to Stillwater and Trinity Lutheran Church to perform,” said Schrickel.  “The glorious acoustic of Trinity Lutheran will make this concert experience an extraordinary one for our audience.”

All MSO concerts are free of charge; free-will donations are appreciated.  No tickets or reservations are needed.
